This popular Hwa Ji Bak Kut Teh located at Eagles Centre is a Raffles lunch-time crowd favourite. The air-conditioned 2 bedroom size restaurant is usually packed during lunch day and you will have to be there before 12pm to avoid waiting.
The standard of the bak kut teh served here is quite close to the one you can find at Founder's Bak Kut Teh located in Balestier. The peppery, mildly herbal taste infused with the aroma of the boiled pork meat that does not gives one a thirst after eating is what most Singaporeans are looking for in a bowl of Bak Kut Teh.
The appearance of their soup is clear as you can see from the picture and it will be a favourite for those who are not looking for too much herbal taste in their soup. Light, simple and aromatic are the words used to describe it and it does not give you a thirsty throat after consumption. The meat is very tender but there is only 3 small pieces in each serving. The serving is very (very!) small despite the cost of the soup ($7.50 for their special bkt) and the dessert-sized bowls are used to hold their speciality. There are also a big range of side dishes available which complements the dishes (Reasonable dishes). The soup can also be refilled upon request.
The overall service is good and is a good place in the raffles area to have lunch when you want to avoid the heat and smoke. Do try it soon!
